A sanctuary in the heart of the mountain

Spiritual center of the Cervo Valley, the protagonist of the Sanctuary of San Giovanni di Andorno is its church dedicated to Saint John the Baptist, built in the 17th century and erected surrounding the preexistent cave, once occupied in early christian times.
The square displays a characteristic fountain with an octagonal shape and a central pillar; such architecture can also be found in the superior cloister of the complex.
The sanctuary houses galleries that host events and exhibitions and a library mainly composed of ancient religious texts of great historical value.
The Sanctuary of the Cervo valley owes its name to the land on which it was built; though geographically and administratively belonging to the territory of Rosazza and to the municipality of Campiglia Cervo, the whole Cervo valley is also called Valle d’Andorno, since it was originally under the jurisdiction of the marquisate bearing the homonymous name.
